The Assam Lutad, Tinsukia, 7th July 2026 :- Nature’s Beckon successfully conducted a summer camp at the Dihing Patkai National Park, for students from the fringe areas of the rainforest. The two – days summer camp on ‘Social responsibility & Wildlife conservation’ involved the active participation of more than a hundred school students from different schools of the area on 4th and 5th July 2026.
The first day of the summer camp began from the Joypur Ramakrishna Mission Field where around 103 students assembled. Members of Nature’s Beckon’s Joypur Anchalik including Sri. Shyamapada Chakravarty, Sri. Mukul Borkotoky, Sri. Pradeep Goswami graced the occasion along with Sri. Apumoy Chakravarty, Headmaster of Ramakrishna Mission School, Joypur.
Sri. Shyamapada Chakravarty felicitated Sri. Soumyadeep Datta, Director- Nature’s Beckon, Sri. Jugal Handique, Dhemaji Coordinator of Nature’s Beckon. And Sri. Joyanta Bhuyan, Duliajan Coordinator of Nature’s Beckon on this occasion.
Sri. Jugal Handique felicitated Sri. Shyamapada Chakravarty, a senior member of Nature’s Beckon on behalf of Nature’s Beckon.
Sri. Soumyadeep Datta set the beginning of the first day of the summer camp with an orientation of the participants on the fundamentals of wildlife conservation, which provided an introduced to important aspects regarding biodiversity conservation. They were connected with the significance of wild bird’s conservation and a holistic approach towards nature conservation. Sri. Jugal Handique also enriched this orientation session which also involved the participants in an interactive learning session.
After this orientation session, the participants were guided to assemble under a patch of Hollong tree (Dipterocarpus retusus) grove situated inside the Dihing Patkai National Park, for a unique open air rainforest classroom within the pulsating natural surrounding of the Dihing Patkai rainforest. All the participants had an enriching lifetime experience sitting under the towering Holong tree grove of the largest contiguous rainforest of the Brahmaputra valley which provides an exhilarating learning experience to the future generations of Assam. This rainforest classroom under the rich natural forest of Hollong trees, the state tree of Assam brings a rare opportunity of nature-conservation based learning for our students and youths, which can be availed exclusively amidst the rich rainforest of the Dihing Patkai National Park, situated in the Dibrugarh-Tinsukia districts of Assam. This learning experience is a unique educational attribute of this rainforest of Assam.
Sri. Jugal Handique facilitated an emotional connect of the participants with this primordial forest land through the ‘Feel the tree’ educational activity of the students under this Hollong grove. He guided the participants to feel the eternal bond of human beings with forests, and Mother Nature through this activity in which one embraces the trees with a sense of emotional connect to feel the tree as a member of one’s family. The participants had an immersive experience of mental empowerment through this activity which brings everyone close to the strength of emotional oneness with Mother Nature, and the richness of wilderness found within our primitive forests like this rainforest of Assam.
Sri. Joyanta Bhuyan enriched this Hollong grove educational experience of the summer camp with an informative and motivational session for the participants in which he spoke on rainforest conservation movement of Assam. He connected all with the significance of Hoolock Gibbon Conservation, and the conservation of the last surviving stronghold of White Winged Wood Duck in this rainforest through the three decades long conservation movement under the firm leadership of Sri. Soumyadeep Datta which succeeded in protecting the biodiversity hotspot of Assam as the globally known Dihing Patkai National Park. Sri. Bhuyan also connected the students with the four and half decades long Nature Beckon led biodiversity conservation movement of Assam. He urged the active participation of the youngsters in this trailblazing conservation movements of Assam.
Sri. Mukul Borkotoky also spoke in this occasion. He beautifully connected the students with the undying spirit of the Nature’s Beckon led rainforest conservation movement of Assam. He shared a heartfelt of the grassroots participation in this conservation movement, he called it a pride for the people and the future generations from the fringe areas of this rainforest. Sri. Borkotoky encouraged the students to take forward this legacy of rainforest conservation ahead with able participation of the youths in this movement.
The participants took part in an educational tour inside the rainforest of the Dihing Patkai National Park along with the resource persons. They were guided through an immersive rainforest hike through the thickets. Sri. Jugal Handique and Sri. Joyanta Bhuyan enriched this rainforest experience of the young students with valuable educational inputs on the flora, fauna, and vegetation of the rainforest. They interpreted the significance of this rainforest to the students, for many of them this was the first field experience of this rich rainforest. The team of learners had an exhilarating rainforest wildlife experience from their sightings of several species of wild birds, non-human primates, and Leopard during their rainforest visit.
The participants reassembled under the Hollong tree grove after this rainforest visit, where Sri. Soumyadeep Datta summed up the field-based learning of the participants within the Dihing Patkai National Park with an educational session under the Hollong tree grove. Sri. Datta connected the students with the essence of biodiversity – conservation based mind movement which strives to integrate the young generations with a self-driven, and empowered participation in the dynamically growing conservation movement of Assam. He urged the students from the fringe areas of the Dihing Patkai rainforest to take the forefront in rainforest conservation, and chart a future of holistic growth for their region through collective efforts to benefit the future of this rainforest along with the progress of all the villages, and communities living in the vicinity of this rainforest. He connected them with the sense of social responsibility in strengthening the grassroots base of rainforest conservation among the people of the fringe areas of this rainforest, while paving their ways to individual growth and empowerment through effective nature-conservation based learning which is readily available to all youths of this area.
All the participants had a unique experience of sharing the afternoon meal together amid the vibrant wilderness surrounding the Hollong grove after the daylong summer camp activities. The whole team of students and resource persons took part in a cleaning drive of the rainforest after their meal, they cleaned the Hollong grove and the nearby areas of the rainforest of the plastic waste strewn at many places. The students also learned the necessity of keeping this pristine rainforest of Assam free from plastic waste menace.
Sri. Shyamapada Chakravarty shared an inspiring talk for the participants after the meal. He encouraged the students to learn about the treasure of biodiversity of the Dihing Patkai National Park. He connected them with the conservation history of this National Park, and urged the students from the fringe areas of this rainforest to be the empowered heirs of this rich history of rainforest conservation in the future. He encouraged the students to learn about this rainforest from educational programs like this summer camp, and continue their quest for rainforest education with an active interest in reading and learning from their interactions with the rainforest.
All the participants were taken back to the premises of the Ramkrishna Mission School, Joypur where the first day of the summer camp was concluded.
5th July 2026 – Second Day of the Summer Day:
The second day of the summer camp began for all the participants in the PMShri Joypur Higher Secondary School, situated in the vicinity of the Dihing Patkai National Park at the Dibrugarh District of Assam.
Sri. Soumyadeep Datta initiated the day with an inspiring session on ‘social responsibility towards wildlife conservation’. He connected the students with the inherent strength of self-driven mental empowerment, to take forward our thoughts and bring about social change within our communities for the holistic growth of our country and the people through our work. Sri. Datta spoke about the importance of integrating a mind movement with our collective efforts like the rainforest conservation movement of Assam. He said that Nature’s Beckon is built on the collective strength of mental equality, and selfless commitment towards the cause of forest preservation, biodiversity conservation, and the holistic progress of our country based on the ethos of a decades’ long conservation movement. He encouraged the students to take the path of self-empowerment while he shared the essence of Nature’s Beckon led Ahum Basudhame Krite Mangaljanak mind movement among all.
Sri. Jugal Handique spoke about the ongoing trainings and capacity building opportunities provided to the young learners and wildlife enthusiasts in different parts of Assam. He said that the students from this summer camp can avail a continuously growing nature-conservation based educational environment provided by Nature’s Beckon, to grow as aware and learned future environment leaders in their regions. He encouraged the students to take an active part in the Nature’s Beckon led biodiversity conservation movement.
Sri. Joyanta Bhuyan spoke about the importance of discipline and mental unity within organisations like Nature’s Beckon. He said while we grow as individuals with our personal efforts, the collective goal pf organisational growth and progress remain a driving force for our work and initiatives. He urged the students to read books related to wildlife conservation, rainforest conservation. He connected them with the prakriti sahitya movement of Nature’s Beckon, because of which the Assamese youths can access very good books related to nature conservation in Assamese language.
The students participated in an interactive session with the resource persons, many put up their questions during this session. They also shared their feedback regarding experiences gained in this two-days summer camp.
The second day of the summer camp included distribution of participation certificates, and a book titled ‘Axamar Barxaranya Dihing Patkai Rashtriya Udyan’ penned by Sri. Soumyadeep Datta among the participating students who completed the two days longe summer camp at Dihing Patkai National Park. Sri. Abhijit Singha, Principal of Joypur Jatiya Vidyalaya initiated the valedictory function. He also announced an essay competition for these students based on the Dihing Patkai National Park in the first week of August. He asked the students to submit their essays with Sri. Shyamapada Chakravarty, and said that five first prizes, five second prizes, and five third prizes will be rewarded to the prize winners of this essay competition.
Sri. Abhijit Singha, Sri. Joyanta Bhuyan, Sri. Jugal Handique, Sri. Shyamapada Chakravarty, and Sri. Mukul Borkotoky presented the certificates to the participants.
The participants found an opportunity to become members of Nature’s Beckon by filling up forms during the summer camp.
Sri. Soumyadeep Datta concluded the summer camp by facilitating the ‘Ahum Basudhame Krite Mangaljanak’ oath for all the participants.
